چکیده
Purpose: B7 molecules are a family of proteins that co-stimulate T cells during immune activation. Normally the corneal epithelial cells (CEC) do not express these molecules on their cell surface. Tolllike receptors play an important role in the innate immune response to invading pathogens and recently have been demonstrated to be expressed on mice cornea. The objective of this study was to determine whether adenoviral infection induces B7 molecules and TLR9 on human CEC. Methods: CEC were isolated from human corneas treated with dispase-II, and grown in the presence of supplemented hormonal epithelial medium until confluence. Then CEC were then infected with adenovirus 5 (Ad5) and cultured for different times. ORIGINAL ARTICLE

Role of MyD88 in Adenovirus Keratitis
Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) are critical to the early detection and innate immune responses to pathogens. In particular, the toll-like receptor (TLR) system and its associated adaptor proteins have essential roles in early host responses to infection. Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis, caused by the human adenovirus, is a severe ocular surface infection associated with corneal inflammation...
متن کاملCYTOPATHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF Mal de Río Cuarto virus IN CORN, WHEAT AND BARLEY
The Mal de Río Cuarto disease is caused by Mal de Río Cuarto virus (MRCV) transmitted by Delphacodes kuscheli. Comparative studies were carried out on the cytopathological alterations produced by MRCV in corn (Zea mays), wheat (Triticum aestivum) and barley (Hordeum vulgare ), as seen with a transmission electron microscope. Corn plants were infected with viruliferous D. kuscheli collected from...
متن کاملCorneal cell survival in adenovirus type 19 infection requires phosphoinositide 3-kinase/Akt activation.
Adenovirus type 19 is a major cause of epidemic keratoconjunctivitis, the only ocular adenoviral infection associated with prolonged corneal inflammation. In this study, we investigated the role of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) and Akt and their downstream targets in adenovirus infection, and here we report the novel finding that adenovirus type 19 utilizes the PI3K/Akt pathway to maintain c...

متن کاملProstate cancer gene therapy: comparison of adenovirus-mediated expression of interleukin 12 with interleukin 12 plus B7-1 for in situ gene therapy and gene-modified, cell-based vaccines.
We have documented previously that adenovirus-mediated interleukin 12 (IL-12) gene therapy is effective for orthotopic tumor control and suppression of pre-established metastases in a preclinical prostate cancer model (Y. Nasu et al., Gene Ther., 6: 338-349, 1999). In this report, we directly compare the effectiveness of an adenovirus that expresses both IL-12 and the costimulatory molecule B7-...
